Scoop it! Get Started Right!

Recently I was asked ” how do you do that thing?”  Really, it is so easy and lots of fun!

We need to start with a quick discussion about how fits into your overall plan.  Maybe I should have start even earlier with… DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?  okay we will skip ahead, I am going to awesome that you have a plan.   So how does into the plan.   Three important goals of  your website and your social media; visibility, credibility and conversion.  And falls into the area of visibility and credibility.  You can share your valuable content and you can share other important information.

Now that you have a plan, let’s go working.

Let’s start with Curation:  What is Curation?

Wikipedia says , Digital curation is the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital assets.

Digital curation generally refers to the process of establishing and developing long term repositories of digital assets for current and future reference by researchers, scientists, historians, and scholars. Enterprises are starting to utilize digital curation to improve the quality of information and data within their operational and strategic processes.  Source is ALL about curation, your topics and others.

How to Start Scooping

Start off at the website.

What is is a FREE publishing-by-curation platform. We provide a service making curation a simple and new form of expression on the Web. Thus, you can easily create your online magazine. We want everyone to be a publisher and be heard everywhere.  There is a free options as well as paid.  There are business and educational versions.

How do you Sign Up

On the home page click on Sign Up for Free button. Then you’ll see a pop up window appear proposing several ways to register. If you’d like to directly sign up with your Facebook or your Twitter account click on the corresponding button to be redirected to the authentication page. Or simply click on “I don’t have a Facebook or a Twitter account” link.  Once your account is created then you can move on to Creating a topic and install the bookmarklet.

Creating a Topic –

Once you have created you Topic on, it is time to start curating.  There are several ways you can   Rescoop from fellow scooper, accept suggestions from readers, create a manual post, scoop content from your travels around the web.

My favourite way to curate or scoop is from the material that I come across on the web.  And there is a super easy way to is the Bookmarklet.    You can just install it in on your web browser.

This part is super easy as well.  You just need to Click on the button, hold and drag it to the header.  You can find the Bookmarklet here.  You can even set it up on your iPad. Time Management

Here is where it gets real fun, you can set up all you social media so that you can connect to everything.   If you have more than one topic you can set up different social media accounts for different topics.    You can connect: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, WordPress, Tumblr,, Buffer and Viadeo.  I have Facebook and Twitter, when I scoop, it automatically posts.   It is awesome.

I do recommend starting with one topic and then build from there.   I am personally crazy so I have a few topics that are related to the areas that I am working.  And thing on my list is growing my followers.

More to come soon!

  1. First, love the new design. I think you and I both enjoy designing as much as blogging. But you have all of the techno-knowledge down!
Thank you for this as I first became aware of Scoop-It from your site. This is similar to what I had already signed up for, Rebel Mouse.
I’ll have to compare the two and see which one I like better because I’m all about curating on my web travels ;)!!!
    Thanks, Lori!

    • Interesting little tidbit, when I set up my Rebel Mouse page, it automatically found all my scoops… so I am not sure a comparison would be a good way to go. I need to dig into it a little more to know for sure, but I am leaning toward using them together to help each other.

      • You cracked me up. I see my geek in you though not as skilled as yours. Not thirty minutes passed before I got a message from Rebel Mouse that you were on it. I looked and you had curated so much I cracked up. Now I know they scooped your scoop so that makes sense.
One of the sites I’m going to reveal on my website is all about curating and credit-ability. Better than pinning!!! You’ll love it. I tweeted that you were on Rebel Mouse as it seems to be a club. A Band of Rebels so to speak.

  2. Hi Lori,
Perhaps it’s because I’m just a big-time curator and that I’m too close to your topic today. But this seemed too broad. I know it was intended as an overview, but I’m not sure what I was supposed to take away from this other than that is cool and curating is awesome (which I agree with).
How about a link or two to your use or a case study of how this would be used in practical terms?

  3. I’ve been wondering what this thing was all about, having had a few of my articles scooped (once or twice by you, I think!).

I’m terribly lazy when it comes to social media; I’ll have to check out and see if I might enjoy it more than other forms of promotion.

  4. Ciara Conlon

Looks like a great platform but seems like too much work to me I struggle to keep up with social media and connecting but it’s great to have people like you to collect the good stuff and put it all together.

  5. Love, love, love the new look and LOVE the magazine. I had heard of but never really examined it. Thanks for all the information. Like Ciara, I can feel overwhelmed with all the social media and adding another to the mix is a challenge. I am definitely going to check it out. Thanks for the info.

    • :-) thanks Jane! Great to hear.

The thing I like most about, once you are set up, you can easily share to all networks with one click.

But only use it if you love it and your readers use it. definitely don’t make extra work for yourself.

  6. I blog quite often and I seriously thank you for your content.
This article has truly peaked my interest. I am going to
take a note of your site and keep checking for new details about once per week.
I subscribed to your Feed as well.

  7. This allows the website to be more attractive and catchy.

To get me going with preparing my own building drawings I got from the Thai Government website a number of ready made Thai building drawings in pdf and Auto – CAD format.

Plus, the satisfaction of watching it turn on for
the first time is something to behold.
