Recently I was asked ” how do you do that Scoop.it thing?”  Really, it is so easy and lots of fun!

We need to start with a quick discussion about how Scoop.it fits into your overall plan.  Maybe I should have start even earlier with… DO YOU HAVE A PLAN?  okay we will skip ahead, I am going to awesome that you have a plan.   So how does Scoop.it into the plan.   Three important goals of  your website and your social media; visibility, credibility and conversion.  And Scoop.it falls into the area of visibility and credibility.  You can share your valuable content and you can share other important information.

Now that you have a plan, let’s go working.

Let’s start with Curation:  What is Curation?

Wikipedia says , Digital curation is the selection, preservation, maintenance, collection and archiving of digital assets.

Digital curation generally refers to the process of establishing and developing long term repositories of digital assets for current and future reference by researchers, scientists, historians, and scholars. Enterprises are starting to utilize digital curation to improve the quality of information and data within their operational and strategic processes.  Source

Once you have created you Topic on Scoop.it, it is time to start curating.  There are several ways you can scoop.it:   Rescoop from fellow scooper, accept suggestions from readers, create a manual post, scoop content from your travels around the web.

My favourite way to curate or scoop is from the material that I come across on the web.  And there is a super easy way to is the Bookmarklet.    You can just install it in on your web browser.

 Scoop.it Time Management

Here is where it gets real fun, you can set up all you social media so that you can connect to everything.   If you have more than one topic you can set up different social media accounts for different topics.    You can connect: Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, WordPress, Tumblr, App.net, Buffer and Viadeo.  I have Facebook and Twitter, when I scoop, it automatically posts.   It is awesome.

I do recommend starting with one topic and then build from there.   I am personally crazy so I have a few topics that are related to the areas that I am working.  And thing on my list is growing my followers.

First, love the new design. I think you and I both enjoy designing as much as blogging. But you have all of the techno-knowledge down!
Thank you for this as I first became aware of Scoop-It from your site. This is similar to what I had already signed up for, Rebel Mouse.
I’ll have to compare the two and see which one I like better because I’m all about curating on my web travels ;)!!!
    Thanks, Lori!

Interesting little tidbit, when I set up my Rebel Mouse page, it automatically found all my scoops… so I am not sure a comparison would be a good way to go. I need to dig into it a little more to know for sure, but I am leaning toward using them together to help each other.

You cracked me up. I see my geek in you though not as skilled as yours. Not thirty minutes passed before I got a message from Rebel Mouse that you were on it. I looked and you had curated so much I cracked up. Now I know they scooped your scoop so that makes sense.
One of the sites I’m going to reveal on my website is all about curating and credit-ability. Better than pinning!!! You’ll love it. I tweeted that you were on Rebel Mouse as it seems to be a club. A Band of Rebels so to speak.

    Hi Lori,
Perhaps it’s because I’m just a big-time curator and that I’m too close to your topic today. But this seemed too broad. I know it was intended as an overview, but I’m not sure what I was supposed to take away from this other than that Scoop.it is cool and curating is awesome (which I agree with).
How about a link or two to your Scoop.it use or a case study of how this would be used in practical terms?

:-) thanks Jane! Great to hear.

The thing I like most about scoop.it, once you are set up, you can easily share to all networks with one click.

But only use it if you love it and your readers use it. definitely don’t make extra work for yourself.

This allows the website to be more attractive and catchy.

To get me going with preparing my own building drawings I got from the Thai Government website a number of ready made Thai building drawings in pdf and Auto – CAD format.

Plus, the satisfaction of watching it turn on for
the first time is something to behold.
